South Lakeland District Council - Mechanical Installation at Coronation Hall

Case Studies

This Council comprises of a portfolio of 35 public buildings, including schools and public buildings. Many buildings across Cumbria, including those maintained by South Lakeland District Council, are subject to stringent regulations due to their age and aesthetic, meaning that all works have to be consistent with all regulations.

Project services

As South Lakeland District Council (SLDC)’s incumbent contractor for servicing and maintenance of their assets, DFP were asked to survey and then quote for works involving a boiler replacement at Coronation Hall, part of SLDC’s impressive portfolio of sites. Coronation Hall is a 636-seat theatre in Ulverston, built in the 20th Century and completed in WWI meaning it is one of South Cumbria's most historic buildings.

We discovered that the boiler system was nearing 30 years old, with aging and poor condition assets. The boiler was a single Strebel TGB45P unit and so therefore if the unit failed, there would be no heating or hot water to the building.

Following decommissioning of the existing system, during August 2019, DFP installed:

  • 2 Ideal Evo Max 150kw boilers
  • Cascade frame kit
  • Low loss header
  • Manifold shunt pumps
  • Flow and return pipework
  • Stainless steel flue system
  • Magnetic system water filter and system protection inhibitor

The works were commissioned and signed off by DFP, to the satisfaction of SLDC. By entrusting DFP Services Ltd with the installation, their day-to-day service was completely undisturbed and their plant room fully refurbished to include a more energy-efficient heating solution.
